Frequent Asked Questions

For Parents Of Those Going Away

  • We have robust risk management and emergency response procedures in place. With our own teams on the ground all year round, we’re continuously monitoring the safety of programs and destinations. We have identified trusted clinics/hospitals in all locations should emergency medical attention be required. Each student is supported by a GapGuru mentor.

On arrival students are given a full health and safety briefing and provided with the out of hours emergency contact number of our in country operations team. We also have a 24 hour emergency support line.

  • Once your trip is confirmed, it’s strongly recommended that you obtain travel insurance. In the event of a cancellation of the program, GapGuru will offer you an alternative program. We will make reasonable efforts to align this alternative program with your preferences. However, if we cannot provide a suitable alternative, you will be eligible for a refund of the program fee you have paid, unless the cancellation occurred due to Force Majeure circumstances. The determination of what qualifies as a ‘suitable alternative’ will solely be at the discretion of GapGuru.
  • Gap Year experiences can foster personal growth, independence, cultural awareness, and a broader perspective on life. Encourage your son/daughter to set goals for their Gap Year and discuss how the skills and experiences gained will be valuable for their future education and career.
  • Absolutely, you can speak to an advisor about your son/ daughters trip. We’re always happy to have a call to discuss our programmes and answer any questions you may have. We understand that travelling independently for the first time can be a big decision, and we want to ensure that everyone feels reassured and well-informed about what we do on a GapGuru trip. Our goal is to provide you with all the information you need to feel confident and comfortable with your child’s travel plans.
  • Communication is key. Discuss how you will stay in touch, whether through phone calls, video chats, or messaging apps. Remember the time difference and that while on the program they are on a busy schedule. Weekends are a good time for check-ins so you can stay updated on their experiences and well-being.

We also post regular trip updates on our instagram @GapGuruOfficial if you’d like to see the photos that we share of your child’s trip!
