    TRIP DESCRIPTION

    Your journey with a purpose will begin in the vibrant and bustling city of Kathamandu. Kathmandu is set in a valley surrounded by the Himalayas and is famous for its many temples. There are many sight-seeing opportunities in Kathmandu, with most tourist attractions originating from as early as the 14th Century- some are even 2,000 years old! Durbar Square and the medieval royal palace plaza are must-sees during any visit to Kathmandu.

There are many sight-seeing opportunities in Kathmandu, with most tourist attractions originating from as early as the 14th Century- some are even 2,000 years old! Durbar Square and the medieval royal palace plaza are must-sees during any visit to Kathmandu.

    During your time in Nepal, you’ll have the opportunity to make an impact contributing to education, health and livelihood programmes within the community. You’ll be supporting our partner charity, the FutureSense Foundation, working towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals and working to build a brighter future for disadvantaged communities around the world.

    Whilst in Nepal, you’ll also have the opportunity to take on the Poon Hill Trek, a 5 day trek through the foot hills of the himalaya’s through, passing through a rhododendron forest, terraced slopes, paddy fields and lush vegetation, and ending your trek with sunrise walk to Poon-Hill, one of the best panoramic view points in Nepal! You can see all the way from the Dhauligiri range to the Manaslu range, including the famous Mountain peak Machhapurche.

    Drinking water and all meals will be included in your programme. However, if you choose to travel during your free time at the weekends, meals will not be included.

    All in country transport required for your programme and project activities will be included. Transport is not included if you choose to travel during your free time at the weekends but our overseas team can advise you on this.

    Accommodation is included throughout your programme (except if you choose to travel independently during free weekends). You will stay in a local hostel/ guest house and share with 3-4 other gappers.

    Activities

    Community Engagement Project

    Working with our partner charity The FutureSense Foundation, you will be making a sustainable impact contributing to our Social Impact, Health and Climate Action projects. You’ll spend 5 weeks leaving your handprint in Dhulikel. Our main focus in Nepal is supporting 624 local students and their families. Current projects include STEM, English, Climate Action, WASH, Stress Management and Women's Health. You will be delivering workshops at our partner schools where you’ll see first hand the impact of our programmes. Ahead of your departure, you will receive a full project briefing with information on your project and how you can prepare.

    Cultural Exchange

    You’ll have plenty of opportunities to explore the rich culture in Nepal. You’ll have the opportunity to explore Kathmandu, Dhulikel and neighbouring areas- soaking in the beautiful scenery and learning about Nepalese culture.

    Poon Hill Trek

    Your final week in Nepal will be spent trekking to Poon Hill through the magnificent Annapurna Region. You will stay in traditional tea houses and pass through many Gurung and Magar settlements on the way to Ghorepani Poon Hill. This 5 day trek will test your endurance, as you reach Poon Hill at 3210m above sea level. Soak in the spectacular scenery and celebrate the end of an incredible 6 weeks in Nepal.
