Global Semesters are intentionally designed 12-week journeys that combine cultural immersion, ethical community engagement, and personal development across two countries.

Students are supported throughout by experienced GapGuru leaders and local teams based in-country year-round. Guided reflection and mentoring help turn experiences into lasting learning, creating a semester that’s adventurous, supportive, and transformative long after the gap year ends.
What you’ll gain
- International Development in Practice
Students gain firsthand insight into international development working with our own non-profit, learning about education, health, infrastructure, and community-led sustainability from the ground up.
- College Credit
Students can earn up to 9 college credits through the Centre for Global Citizenship Studies, included in the cost of the program. Integrated coursework may also allow families to use 529 plan funds to support the semester.
- Personal Growth & College Readiness
Through structured reflection, mentoring, and small-group learning, students build critical thinking skills, global awareness, and a strong sense of purpose—preparing them academically, socially, and emotionally for college and beyond.
- Meaningful, Structured Global Travel
Global Semesters prioritize intentional travel over rushed tourism, building confidence, adaptability, and cross-cultural understanding.
